A Methodology towards Green Certificates for Service Applications

Energy-aware services can be obtained out of Green Performance Indicators (GPIs) annotations which express metrics to compute energy consumption by applications at various levels, from the used IT infrastructure to the organizational and environmental impact of an application. A Green Certificate (GC) is a document that can be associated to a service showing its energy-related performance along all the service life cycle, from development to deployment, execution, maintenance and disposal. This paper describes a methodology to create the GC and to use it for service selection. Sample GCs for services using XML documents and WS-* policy compliance are also illustrated.
